Chart of the Day

๐Ÿ† Today's Chart of the Day was shared by Ricardo Sarraf (@nullcharts).

  • The Dow opened at a record high this morning, boosted by a sharp rebound in UnitedHealth Care ($UNH), before giving back nearly all of its gains and finishing the day up just +0.08%.

  • While the Dow missed a record daily close, Rick notes it printed its first weekly record high of the year, gaining +1.7% this week. It also managed to outperform the S&P 500 for the first time in six weeks.

  • Today's action wasn't pretty, but weekly all-time highs often precede daily all-time highs. The Dow has built a nine-month base, and a meaningful move above 45,000 could spark a new leg higher in the coming months.

The Takeaway: Despite fading into the close today, the Dow notched its first weekly all-time high of the year, setting the stage for a meaningful rally in the back half of the year, as it resolves from a multi-month base.
